It's been a long journey, and a very exciting season in the world of college football this year, as we've seen plenty of upsets, close games, and many surprises. As fans from around the world all know, coming into the new year is the most important time for college football, and we enter the college playoffs, and watch the four best teams in the nation compete against one another for a chance to go to the National Championship game. This year, Michigan, Alabama, Texas and Washington have made the final four, and it was a very tough decision by the committee to solve who should have made it. With undefeated Florida State being snubbed a shot, Alabama has sneaked their way in as the 4th ranked team in the nation as they look to take on the 1st ranked team in the nation, Michigan. In the second game, we have the second ranked team in the Nation, Washington, Taking on the 3rd best team, Texas. Of these four teams, Michigan and Washington have yet to drop a game, and head into their matchups with a perfect 13-0 record. With Alabama and Texas both dropping one game each, it'll be their task to hand one of these two teams their first loss, if they want to find themselves competing in the nation championship game. All of these teams are very deserving, but only two can make it, with only one winning it all! Let's take a look at the journey of these teams, and who should make their way to the National Championship game!
Michigan vs Alabama Preview and Analysis
Undefeated Michigan is looking to get past the semi-final of the college playoffs, something they've been unable to do in 2021, 2022, and 2024. Coming up short in a handful of the last few years, the Wolverines have looked better than ever, and appear to have quite the resume backing them up coming into this one. Being led by J.J. McCarthy, he has 19 touchdowns on the season, with the help of his star-studded running back Blake Corum, and wide receiver Roman Wilson. Michigan leads the nation 1st overall in points against and has arguably the best defence in the nation. If Michigan can execute the game plan they've stuck to all year long, while pound the ball on the floor, this could get out of Alabama's reach quickly. With this said, Alabama is not a team to be taken lightly, and they show this time and time again as they've won previously in 2015, 2017, and 2020. Finding themselves with struggles in recent years, Jalen Milroe leads the helm for their offence, and are currently ranked 19th in the nation in the "points for" category. If Alabama can keep the ball in the air, without causing turnovers, this could be a game where they surprise Michigan. Alabama's only loss is to Texas, which was at the start of the year, and since then have not dropped a game, while defeating the previous number one team in the nation, Georgia. This should be a very back and forth game, but if Michigan can continue to utilize their defence, it's hard to see Alabama finding a way to create holes. This should come down to the wire, but ultimately, Michigan should finally get their chance to play in the National Championship game.
Prediction: Michigan
Washington vs Texas Preview and Analysis
Undefeated Washington is looking to do something nobody thought they could at the start of the year, and that's make their way to the National Championship game. Washington has taken the college football world by storm, defeating five top 25 teams on the season, while winning their regular season Championship. Micheal Penix Jr, who is also a candidate for the Heisman, has earned himself 33 touchdowns of course at the help of his all-star running back Dillon Johnson, and his star-studded wide receiver Rome Odunze. Combined, these two men have 27 touchdowns on their resume, and there should be more to come. This will be Washington's biggest test yet, but if they can keep the ball in the air and continue to keep up with the high-powered offence of Texas, we've seen many times that Washington has a tendency to clutch it in the end. With this said, Texas is 13th in the nation in the "points for" category, and is led by Quinn Ewers, who's thrown 21 touchdowns on the season. They're 18th in the nation in the passing category, and Texas will look to expose Washington's questionable pass defence. We've seen what Oregon was able to do previously, and if Texas can expose what Oregon was able to, this very well could be their game for the taking. Washington has proven to us all year that they can prevail through adversity, but it feels like their time is coming and this could be it. This should be a very close game, but in the end, I believe Texas will get the taste of success.
Prediction: Texas
