Beers, Bets and Bunkers: Survival Guide to the 2024 Masters

Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to this year's survival guide on the 2024 Masters Tournament. The old saying goes, "the grass is greener on the other side." and this year we'll all be hoping that's the case with our hard-earned money, as we stock the fridge with cold beverages, and try to figure out how many out-right futures we're going to place so we can feel successful when one hits. You may think to yourself, "Gambling on golf? Isn't that like betting on a tortoise race?" Well fear not my friends, because wagering on The Masters is a rollercoaster of emotion spread about between multiple days. Through April 11th to the 14th, it's safe to tell the wife you'll be booked from morning to late afternoon, because we'll be seeing more holes than a New York City backstreet. Not enough to convince you to get into the action? Picture this: Tiger Woods stepping up to the tee, the crowd holding its breath, while you, and all friends alike, holding a betting slip tighter than your grandmother's grip on her secret pancake recipe. That's the magic of what this Masters brings to many, and what it'll bring to you as you get in on this year's action! Eagles, birdies, and bogeys are in the foreseeable future, so let's see who has the hot hand, and who will be stroking it more than an adult movie star!

Jon Rahm, Scottie Scheffler, Hideki Matsuyama, Dustin Johnson and Tigers woods are the past five winners of the Masters, which makes sense why Scottie Scheffler is the favourite to win it all, with Jon Rahm closing in as the third-biggest favourite to win. Don't let these young guns fool you through, in 2022 Phil Mickelson finished in 2nd place, and with five-time champion Tiger Woods hopefully back in the mix, these two men are some of the best to ever grace the course. With this said, Scottie Scheffler is coming off a 1st place finish at The Players Championship, and as the most consistent player at the moment, will be looking to continue his amazing play at this year's Masters. The only notable change to the course this year is very minor, with the par-5 second hole will be 10 yards longer, making it a 585-yard-long hole. They usually say, the bigger, the better, right? That's not always the case if you can't drive the ball. Rory McIlroy, a four-time major champion, closes in as the second-biggest favourite, with Brooks Koepka, and Jordan Spieth closing shortly behind makes a lot of sense with their recent resumes. These names you tend to see a lot at the top of the list, and though they're some of the most prolific golfers in the game, there's going to be a few long shots sneaking up from the pack.

Previous 2020 Masters winner Dustin Johnson comes in as a +3600 under-dog, with Will Zalatoris currently noted at +2100. It's hard to shy away from keeping these two men in the back of our minds, as Will Zalatoris has finished inside the top six, twice in the last three years. Obviously, it's hard not to back a previous champion at such great odds, as Dustin Johnson, not only having won it recently, consistently seems to have a great knack for the course. Lastly is Sam Burns coming in at +5500, with four top-10 finishes on the year, he's been mighty consistent to say the least, and this could be the time he finally gets his first win of 2024. Everyone loves a good underdog story, and these three men may be the answer you're looking for if you're trying to earn free beer for the rest of the year.

Early Saturday morning golf is a great excuse to get drunk before noon, and even better to get some much-needed alone time. Though we'll be glued to our screens during The Masters weekend, that doesn't mean we still can't have a good time. Scottie Scheffler has been the most consistent player this year and coming off a 1st place finish at The Player's Championship, it's hard not to back him going into the Masters as the previous 2022 champion. Though betting the favourite isn't always the best method, it doesn't hurt to sprinkle a little on Zalatoris, Burns, Dustin Johnson as these three men could easily come to a top-five finish, and even put on the Green Jacket. At the end of the day, it's about the thrill of the bet, the rush of the win, and the camaraderie of sharing a few laughs (and maybe a few dollars) with friends old and new.

Let's enjoy the show!
