Ladies and gentlemen, it’s that time of year when jockey’s trade in their GPS devices for a horse, and spectators swap their Sunday best for over-the-top hats that could house a small family of birds. If you haven’t guessed it by now, the Kentucky Derby is about to get underway in the coming weeks, and as always should be quite a spectacular event, filled with very wealth people, expensive beverages, and a lot of money. Beyond the flamboyant fashion and the excitement of the race, the history and tradition of the Kentucky Derby is like no other, and had been a cornerstone in America since 1875. The derby isn’t only a race, but it’s a slice of America served on a very expensive dish. With this said, we’d like to welcome you to the Kentucky Derby, where the only thing faster than the horses is the rate at which your heart races with the thrill of anxiety and anticipation!
On Saturday, May 4th, the Kentucky Derby will renew its 150th event that will lead you to the fastest two minutes of your life. Located at the notorious Churchill Downs in Louisville, the event really is quite like no other, and speak that with the upmost respect, even though from a newcomer's perspective it may seem to appear as a childhood tea party. Though it is one of the fanciest atmosphere in sports, it adds salt to the wound to hear some of the names you’ll be watching, or possibly wagering on during the event. From “Uncle Heavy” to “Justin a Touch” the competitors names for their stallions is nothing short of humorous, and quite honestly is starting to sound a little like one of P. Diddy’s pool parties.
If you’ve made it this far, you’re probably ready to have a few drinks and get in on the action yourself. If you’re ready to join in on some of the absolute degenerate behaviour you can get into, then look no further. Though the Kentucky Derby is known for its many surprises, upsets, and sometimes favourable behaviour, there is one of the horses that stands out particularly more than most. Fierceness is one in particular, who comes in as one of the favourites, has won three of five career races, including both of his grade 1 runs. If you’re looking for a long shot, one of the most famous derby bettors believes Resilience can cause a massive upset at 35-1. Trained by Bill Mott, who won the 2019 Kentucky Derby, there is some belief this could be a miracle day for the horse.
At the end of the day, we’ll all be looking to get to the end of the day after this event! Though exciting, it’s going to take a lot of alcoholic beverages to make it through this one. One thing for sure, we’ll all be looking to get rich off the rich! Enjoy.
