Since the beginning of time, sports have had their most prestigious accolade to achieve and the one you'd aspire to achieve since you were a child watching your favourite star play the game. This coming week, the most inspirational tournament will be played with the best talent in the world of tennis, Wimbledon. As we head out of the golden era of Roger Federer, Nadal, Murray and Novak Djokovic, we're entering a new generation of tennis, one of which sees us being left breathless as a new star has arrived to chase greatness, Carlos Alcaraz. With five grand slams under his belt at the age of 22, along with back-to-back Wimbledon championships, we may be witnessing the future of Tennis, and quite possibly a face that will be added to the Mount Rushmore of the game years later. Put on your white attire, fancy cap and grab a cold drink, because we're about to break down exactly who's taking down Wimbledon 2025!
Getting straight to it, Alcaraz is coming off a Roland Garros championship, the Prince of Clay played quite possibly one of the best matches we've seen in the history of the game, coming back from 2 sets down and saving match points against the #1 player in the world, Jannik Sinner. Simply put, as of now this tournament comes down to three people, Obviously back-to-back champions Alcaraz, 3-time slam winner Jannik Sinner, or of course, arguably the greatest of all-time, Djokovic. If you look outside these three men, sure someone can make a deep push, but it's hard to imagine someone actually winning outside this big three. Sure, names like Medvedev, Zevrev, Rune, Draper, and Shelton may seem intimidating to run into, but all of these names have continuously fallen to these three men in the last few years. The story this year will be simple, Can Djokovic make one last Wimbledon run, putting a stop to Alcaraz and Sinner while claiming the one Grand Slam he's won the most out of anyone? It would be the perfect fairy-tale ending, to a career we may never certainly see matched again.
My prediction for this year's men's side is simple, Djokovic will give us one last Cinderella run on the surface he has been the most dominant in all his career, defeating the world #1 Sinner on his path to meeting Alcaraz. We'll see Alcaraz win yet another final, becoming one of few to 3-peat in a major & ultimately become the new king of grass, cementing his legacy as one of the best to ever play the game, already at only the age of 22.
As we shift over to the women's side, this can be the most lacklustre draw to predict as the game is played in three sets, and the lack of consistency is far more involved than the men's side. It's clear as day this is the new big 3's draw to lose between Sabalenka, Gauff and Swiatek. Truthfully, the woman's side has never been more unpredictable as the talent scales in a major way, being quite possibly some of the most competitive tennis we've seen since the Serena/Sharapova era. In the last two and a half seasons, the big three have combined for 7 major wins, but funny enough, neither have won Wimbledon. This makes this year's women's side one of the most exciting to watch, as this truly could be anyone's major to win this year. With world #11 Rybakina winning in 2022, and world #5 Paolini falling short in last year's final, these will be the two women to keep an eye on as we get closer to the final end of the draw. Mark my words, we may be in for a major surprise this year, claiming yet again a new champion outside the big three.
My prediction for this year's women's side goes as follows: Look for Rybakina to cause a major upset on her way back to a Wimbledon final, where she will most likely be meeting Sabalenka, the most dominant player on the tour. This would make for a rematch of a championship match a few weeks ago, where Rybakina choked a third set tie-breaker after almost causing an upset. Look for Rybakina to get revenge, and ultimately become a 2x Wimbledon champion!
